Weekly yacht charter from Monaco — the industry standard

The weekly yacht charter is the default format for a proper Mediterranean charter. Seven nights, one yacht, one crew, one contract — under the MYBA charter agreement drafted by the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association. Every reputable central agent in Monaco, Antibes, Cannes and beyond writes charters this way.

A weekly charter from Monaco departs Port Hercule Saturday afternoon (or a flexible start day where the yacht's calendar allows), cruises for seven nights, and disembarks Saturday morning. The itinerary is shaped in dialogue between the guest party and the captain — flexible, weather-responsive, unhurried.

The structure of a weekly charter

Booking. Base fee paid to escrow at signing of the MYBA agreement. APA (typically 30% of the base fee) transferred 30 days before charter start. Charter cancellation insurance optional but recommended.

Pre-charter. Video call with the captain 7–14 days before start to shape outline itinerary, dietary preferences, dockage and any special occasions. Preference sheet completed by guest party. Provisioning list built by the chef against the sheet.

Day 1 — boarding. Arrive at Port Hercule mid-afternoon. Crew welcome, safety brief, cabin allocation, first dinner on board (or ashore at Louis XV or Beefbar if pre-arranged).

Days 2–6 — cruising. The core of the charter. Each morning the captain reviews the day's plan with you over breakfast; each afternoon the plan for tomorrow. Anchorages, swim stops, watersports, tender excursions, lunch on board or ashore, evening at anchor or in port.

Day 7 — disembarkation. Return to Port Hercule (or agreed final port) mid-morning. Final settlements (APA reconciliation, crew gratuity, damages review) closed on the day.

Weekly itineraries from Monaco — three variants

The Riviera week (conservative). Monaco → Cap-Ferrat → Villefranche → Cannes → Îles de Lérins → Saint-Tropez → return via Antibes. Short cruising legs, long anchor time, easy weather management. Ideal for a first charter or a party with mixed sea legs.

The Italian week (eastbound). Monaco → Portofino → Cinque Terre → Elba → Corsica (Bonifacio) → return via Calvi. Longer overnight legs, more variety, more ports. Requires a yacht with real range.

The Sardinia week (adventurous). Monaco → Bonifacio → Costa Smeralda → La Maddalena archipelago → return via northern Corsica. Two overnight passages. For yachts of 40m+ with the range and sea-keeping to move confidently across the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian seas.

Weekly yacht charter Monaco — cost structure

Base fee. Covers the yacht, its crew and its equipment. Paid to an escrow account 30 days before charter start; released to the owning company on the start date.

APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). Typically 30–35% of the base fee. Covers fuel, provisions, dockage, communications and guest requests during the charter. Reconciled at the end; any surplus is refunded, any overspend is settled.

VAT. In EU waters, typically 20%. Reducible under the French Commercial Exemption or the Italian coastal reduction where the itinerary qualifies. LYC Monaco structures every charter to make lawful use of any reduction the itinerary allows.

Crew gratuity. Customarily 5–15% of the base fee, at guest discretion, paid to the crew (not the owner or broker) at end of charter.
