Why charter starts in Monaco
Few harbours in the world combine Monaco's depth, protection and sheer proximity to the action ashore. Port Hercule is a working superyacht port that has been shaped, dredged and extended for exactly this purpose — to keep large yachts safely, elegantly and centrally moored inside the Principality itself. Stepping off a passerelle in Monaco means stepping directly into the fabric of the city: Casino Square, the Hôtel de Paris, the Opéra Garnier and the Rock of Monaco are all within a quiet stroll, and the Grand Prix circuit runs past the port's edge. That immediacy — the sense that the yacht and the destination are one continuous experience — is what draws clients back to Monaco year after year.
Port Hercule and Cala del Forte
Port Hercule welcomes yachts up to significant length in its central quays, with Quai Rainier III and the T-Jetty typically reserved for larger yachts. Every berth is subject to confirmation and, during event weeks, allocation is exceptionally tight. For yachts unable to secure a slot inside the Principality itself, the neighbouring Cala del Forte marina at Ventimiglia — a short cruise east across the Italian border — has become a natural overflow, particularly for owners who value privacy and quieter provisioning. Your concierge advises on the harbour that best fits the charter, the guest list and the arrival plan.
Ashore in the Principality
Monaco rewards guests who treat it as a destination rather than a photo stop. Mornings in the Jardin Exotique or the Oceanographic Museum, an unhurried lunch at the Yacht Club de Monaco or Le Grill on the roof of the Hôtel de Paris, and evenings across Casino Square are the classical rhythm. Beyond the postcard, the Larvotto beach front has been fully reshaped and now offers a genuine seafront promenade; Fontvieille remains the calmer, residential quarter for guests who prefer a slower pace. Every recommendation we make is chosen quietly — no queues, no fanfare, and always with a discreet fallback.
Cruising from Port Hercule
The reason Monaco endures as a charter base is the coastline that opens up the moment the lines are released. Within an hour, a yacht can be at anchor off Cap Ferrat for a swim; within two, at the Îles de Lérins or the western tip of Cap d'Antibes; within a night's passage, in Portofino, Saint-Tropez, Porto Cervo or the anchorages of Corsica. Day itineraries from Monaco typically run east along the Cap or west toward the Rade de Villefranche and Beaulieu; week-long charters most often head west toward Saint-Tropez or east into Liguria.
Event weeks
Two weeks each year change the character of the harbour entirely. The Monaco Grand Prix in late May turns the yachts moored inside Port Hercule into the most privileged grandstand on the Formula 1 calendar; the Monaco Yacht Show in late September fills every quay with the newest builds in the industry. Both require planning many months in advance, and both operate on event-week commercial terms distinct from the regular season. We handle each on a case-by-case basis.
Practicalities
Nice Côte d'Azur airport is roughly 40 minutes by road and a few minutes by helicopter transfer where offered. Provisioning is exceptional — Monaco's caterers, florists and private drivers are used to preparing at short notice and to a high standard. Weather in the shoulder months (April, May, September, October) is often the finest of the year, and the harbour is noticeably quieter outside event weeks. Your concierge will always suggest the calendar that best suits the charter you have in mind.
