How itineraries take shape from Monaco
Every itinerary we suggest begins with two questions: how much time is available, and what pace suits the guests aboard. From Port Hercule, the coastline opens both east and west, and the choice between the two shapes the entire charter. West means the classical French Riviera — Cap Ferrat, Cannes, Saint-Tropez — with a rich sequence of anchorages, beach clubs and ports. East means Liguria — Sanremo, Portofino, the Cinque Terre — quieter, more compact, and often more photogenic. Longer charters can combine both; short charters are almost always better focused.
Day itinerary — Cap Ferrat and Villefranche
Board at Port Hercule mid-morning. Cruise west along Cap d'Ail toward the Rade de Villefranche, one of the deepest natural bays on the Riviera. Drop anchor on the eastern side of Cap Ferrat for a swim and water toys; lunch on board at anchor. In the afternoon, reposition slowly along Cap Ferrat and Beaulieu, with an optional tender ashore for a coffee at Paloma Beach. Return to Port Hercule in the late afternoon. Total run: roughly six to eight hours on the water.
Long weekend — Monaco, Portofino and back
Day 1: board Monaco in the afternoon; short evening cruise to Ventimiglia or Sanremo; dinner on board. Day 2: overnight or early-morning passage to Portofino; late morning arrival, anchor in Paraggi bay or moor in Portofino subject to availability; lunch ashore or on board; afternoon walk to Castello Brown; dinner in the Piazzetta. Day 3: morning at anchor off San Fruttuoso; lunch on board; afternoon passage back toward Monaco with a possible stop at Sanremo. Day 4: quiet morning at anchor near Menton or Cap Martin; return to Port Hercule for lunch and disembarkation.
Week — Monaco to Saint-Tropez and return
Day 1: board Monaco in the afternoon; short cruise to anchor off Cap d'Ail or Villefranche; dinner on board. Day 2: cruise west to the Îles de Lérins off Cannes; anchor off Sainte-Marguerite; lunch on board; evening in Cannes. Day 3: cruise to Saint-Tropez with a lunch stop at anchor off Théoule or Agay; evening in Saint-Tropez port. Day 4: full day in Pampelonne bay with a tender ashore for lunch at a beach club. Day 5: cruise back toward Cannes with a stop at Golfe-Juan or Antibes; evening at anchor. Day 6: full day between Cap Ferrat and Villefranche; long lunch at anchor. Day 7: quiet morning off Cap Martin; return to Port Hercule for disembarkation.
Alternative — Monaco east into Liguria
For clients who have cruised the French Riviera before, an eastern itinerary is often more rewarding. From Monaco, a night's passage reaches Portofino; a further day opens up Santa Margherita, Camogli, San Fruttuoso and, further south, the Cinque Terre and the Gulf of La Spezia. The coastline is quieter, the food is arguably better, and the anchorages have a different character. A full week east is comfortable at a slow pace.
Event-week itineraries
During the Monaco Grand Prix and the Monaco Yacht Show, the yacht typically remains inside Port Hercule for most of the week. Short repositioning cruises — an afternoon at anchor off Cap Ferrat, a morning across the bay to Cap Martin — are still possible on quieter days and can be a welcome break from the harbour's intensity.
Notes on planning
Distances quoted above are indicative and depend on the yacht's cruising speed. Fuel is charged through the APA and can be a significant line item for longer runs at speed. Captains will always propose adjustments based on weather forecasts, sea state and, occasionally, harbour availability — flexibility is part of chartering well.
