Mega yacht charter from Monaco — the top of the market
Mega yacht charter Monaco is the shorthand for the 60m+ segment of the private charter market — Feadship, Oceanco, Lürssen, Amels flagships, and the largest Benetti and Sanlorenzo builds. It's the top of the yacht charter pyramid, priced accordingly and placed accordingly.
A mega yacht is not a bigger superyacht. It's a floating estate — helideck or touch-and-go platform, beach club with sea-level access, spa, hammam, cinema, twin sunbed decks, submersibles on some yachts. Crew of fifteen to thirty. Range to cross the Mediterranean in two days without refuelling.
LYC Monaco places these charters personally. Below is what defines a mega yacht charter, how the fleet looks from Monaco, what it costs, and how to enquire.
What defines a mega yacht charter
60m+ length overall. The working threshold. Below 60m the yacht is superyacht territory (40–60m). Above 100m the term 'gigayacht' sometimes applies.
1,000+ gross tonnage. A regulatory band that requires expanded safety systems, larger crews, mandatory helicopter operations training for deck officers, and more rigorous flag-state surveys.
Four or five decks. Main, upper, sun and often a fourth owner's or spa deck, plus a beach club at sea level. Multiple guest lounges, formal dining and casual dining, dedicated tender garage, dedicated toy storage.
Full professional crew of fifteen to thirty. Captain, two or three officers, engineers, executive chef with brigade, purser, chief stewardess with interior team, deck team, dive-master, spa therapist, helicopter pilot on helideck-equipped yachts.
Range for the whole Mediterranean without refuelling. Monaco to Sardinia, Corsica to the Balearics, the Adriatic loop — sea-keeping to match.
The mega yacht fleet available from Monaco
Roughly forty to sixty mega yachts (60m+) are marketed for private charter across the Mediterranean in any given season. A meaningful number are placed off-market — the yacht is available for charter but never listed on public search engines, only offered to a short list of trusted concierges. LYC Monaco has active relationships with the central agents behind most of the listed fleet, and a private route to the off-market cohort.
Builder-wise: Feadship and Lürssen dominate the top of the market with custom builds; Oceanco and Amels sit close behind. Benetti and Sanlorenzo have several mega yachts in the fleet. A small number of sailing mega yachts (Perini Navi, Baltic, Vitters) are also placeable for guests who prefer canvas over power.
The shortlist for your dates comes back with three to five yachts — each vetted for the brief, with photos, deck plans, crew CVs, tender and toy inventory, and current availability confirmed with the yacht's central agent.

80–90m mega yacht. €1,500,000–€2,500,000 per week base fee.

Every price adds APA (~30–35% of the base fee) for fuel, provisions, berthing and communications, reconciled at end of charter. Event weeks — Monaco Grand Prix, Cannes Film Festival, Monaco Yacht Show — add 30–100% to the base fee.
Berthing, helicopter and shore-side logistics
Berthing above 60m requires specific quays. Port Hercule's T-jetty accommodates 60–120m stern-to; the Yacht Club de Monaco quay receives flagships under members-club protocol. For the largest yachts and for event weeks when Monaco is fully booked, we arrange berthing at Antibes IYCA (up to 165m), Cannes Vieux Port or La Ciotat's superyacht basin, with helicopter transfers.
Helicopter operations are baked into most mega yacht charters. Yachts with a certified helideck accept full landings; touch-and-go yachts handle guest transfers. Where neither is fitted, we arrange transfers via the Monaco Fontvieille heliport (Monacair) or Nice-Côte d'Azur.
On the shore side, we coordinate with private aviation (Nice, Cannes-Mandelieu, Genoa), private banking (Monaco), private security, private dining and private hotel suites — everything the charter's schedule touches, run through a single Monaco desk.
Frequently asked questions
What size counts as a mega yacht?+
There's no fixed rule. Industry usage typically starts 'mega yacht' at 60 metres and reserves 'gigayacht' for 100m+. LYC Monaco quotes anything from 60m up as a mega yacht charter Monaco brief, and hands smaller briefs to our superyacht charter desk (40m+).
How many guests can a mega yacht charter carry?+
Twelve overnight guests is the Mediterranean legal cap for private charter yachts, regardless of length. What a 60m or 80m mega yacht adds is space per guest, staff ratio (often 1:1.5 or better), tender and toy inventory, range, and multi-deck architecture — not more sleeping capacity. Day-use guest counts can be much higher (60–100+).
How much does a mega yacht charter Monaco cost per week?+
A 60–80m mega yacht runs €700,000–€1,500,000 per week base fee. 80m+ starts at €1.5M and can exceed €3.5M per week for the largest and most sought-after hulls. Add APA (30–35%) and, in EU waters, VAT. Event weeks add 30–100%.
Can a mega yacht carry a helicopter?+
Yes — many 60m+ mega yachts carry a certified helideck for full landings, and most carry a touch-and-go platform for guest transfers. Where the yacht has neither, we arrange helicopter transfers directly from Monaco's Fontvieille heliport to the nearest port to the yacht.
Where does a mega yacht berth in Monaco?+
The T-jetty at the mouth of Port Hercule receives the largest mega yachts stern-to. The Yacht Club de Monaco quay is used for members-club flagships. Where Monaco berthing is not available for the requested dates, we arrange berthing at Antibes IYCA (International Yacht Club d'Antibes), which handles up to 165m yachts, and helicopter or tender transfers.
How far in advance should I book a mega yacht charter?+
For a standard summer week outside events, six to nine months. For Monaco Grand Prix, Cannes Film Festival, Monaco Yacht Show or mid-August peak, twelve months minimum. The most sought-after mega yachts are typically committed a full year ahead for event dates.
