For membership, official events and club affairs, please refer to the Yacht Club de Monaco directly. We provide this guide because many of our guests visit Monaco during club-adjacent event weeks — Formula 1 Grand Prix, Monaco Yacht Show, Monaco Classic Week — and orient themselves around the harbour before arriving.
What Is the Yacht Club de Monaco?
The Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) is Monaco's national yacht club. It was founded in 1953 and today is presided over by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco. Internationally, YCM is one of the reference yacht clubs of the Mediterranean — alongside the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes and the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa — with a programme that runs from competitive sailing to environmental research to the stewardship of classic yachting.
The current clubhouse was designed by Foster + Partners and inaugurated in 2014. A long, low, ship-inspired building along the Quai Louis II, it holds the members' facilities, event spaces, terraces overlooking Port Hercule and the small marina in front of the clubhouse. The YCM burgee — the club's flag, distinguishable at any harbour on the Riviera — is a marker of affiliation for the yachts that fly it.
Beyond the clubhouse, YCM's public work includes the Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge, an annual competition for alternative-propulsion small craft, and La Belle Classe, a standard and community for classic yachting. During Monaco Classic Week in September of odd years, historic yachts assemble in Port Hercule under YCM's programme.
Where Is the Yacht Club Located?
The clubhouse sits on the Quai Louis II, on the western side of Port Hercule. The address is 1 Quai Louis II, 98000 Monaco. On foot, it is a five-minute walk from the Café de Paris in Monte-Carlo down to the harbour, and immediately adjacent to Stade Louis II. From the terraces the view runs across the harbour to the Palais Princier on the Rock of Monaco.
During the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Quai Louis II hosts the T-berth yachts that sit directly on the swimming-pool section of the circuit — the clubhouse is a permanent structure on the inside of the harbour, and the racing runs meters from its seaward edge. During the Monaco Yacht Show in late September, the exhibition footprint wraps the club and fills the whole of Port Hercule and the Darse Nord.
Practical logistics: Monaco Heliport is a seven-minute drive along the coastal road, or a short helicopter transfer if arriving from Nice Côte d'Azur airport (roughly seven minutes gate-to-gate). Monte-Carlo train station is walking distance.
Membership and Visitor Access
YCM membership is by application and sponsorship. The publicly documented categories include Full Members, Associate Members, Junior Members and Corporate Members, each with different criteria, fees and voting rights. Full membership generally requires two sponsoring members and admission by the club's committee; the specifics are set out on the official YCM website.
Non-members access the club as guests of a member. Reciprocal privileges exist with several major international yacht clubs; members of those clubs can request temporary visitor access through their home-club secretary in advance of a Monaco visit. Walk-up access is not offered.
LYC Monaco does not process YCM membership, sponsor applications, or represent members in club affairs — for that, please contact the club directly. Where our charter guests wish to combine a Port Hercule charter with a member-hosted lunch or evening at YCM, the invitation must come from a member; we can coordinate the practical logistics around it.
Events at the Yacht Club de Monaco
YCM's event calendar sits alongside the wider Monaco calendar and, in several cases, is inseparable from it:
- Monaco Yacht Show — late September. The show fills Port Hercule with the year's brokerage and charter fleet; YCM hosts club-side hospitality and industry gatherings across the four days.
- Monaco Historic Grand Prix — even years, the weekend before the F1 Grand Prix. Historic Formula cars race the classic Monaco circuit; YCM's members-side hospitality overlooks the swimming-pool section.
- Monaco Classic Week — odd years, September. Under La Belle Classe, historic sail and motor yachts assemble in the harbour for regattas, elegance concours and seminars.
- Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge — July. Alternative-propulsion small-craft racing and technology showcase led by YCM and international university teams.
- La Belle Classe Academy — training programmes for yacht captains, crew and owners in seamanship, ethics of yachting and environmental practice.
- Environmental Symposium — YCM's ongoing programme on the future of yachting and marine environment protection.
During each of these weeks, Port Hercule takes on a distinct atmosphere and the wider Monaco calendar (dinners, cocktails, partner-brand events) reshapes around them.
Chartering a Yacht Near the Yacht Club
A significant part of the international charter fleet moors in Port Hercule during summer and event weeks, and the yachts sit — literally — alongside the YCM clubhouse. Chartering a yacht in Monaco does not require Yacht Club membership; it is a separate commercial arrangement under MYBA charter agreements with independent brokers and central-agency firms.
Guests who charter from Monaco use Port Hercule as the base for day trips along the Riviera (Villefranche, Cap Ferrat, Saint-Tropez) or as a floating hospitality platform during the event weeks. Port Hercule and the Surrounding Area
Port Hercule is Monaco's main harbour, dating back to Roman times as a natural anchorage and today a modern deep-water port capable of hosting yachts to well over 100 metres. The principal quays a chartered yacht might use are the Quai Louis II (alongside the YCM clubhouse, and the F1 T-berth position), the Quai Rainier III (the Rascasse-corner side of the harbour) and Darse Sud (the quieter southern basin used for slightly longer stays and off-event bookings).
Around the harbour: the Casino Square and the Hôtel de Paris a short walk uphill in Monte-Carlo, the Rock of Monaco with the Palais Princier across the harbour to the west, the Grimaldi Forum and Larvotto beaches to the east, and the Fairmont hairpin — a signature F1 corner — visible from many of the yachts moored on the eastern side of Port Hercule.
