Food & wine yacht charter — Monaco and the Riviera

Chef-led yacht charter itineraries along the Riviera and beyond — Provençal markets, Ligurian trattorias, vineyard mornings inland and long lunches at anchor. The Mediterranean's most rewarding food-and-wine week is one you sail through rather than fly around.

In short

Yes — client-provisioned wine with the appropriate paperwork and a modest corkage is standard. The chief stewardess coordinates delivery and cellar storage before boarding.

Why a food-and-wine charter

A yacht is the only vehicle that lets you eat, drink and sleep across the whole Mediterranean food map without repacking. Menton for lemons and citron festival in February; Ligurian trocaderos and focaccia at Camogli; Provençal markets at Antibes and Saint-Tropez; the Îles de Lérins for monastic wine on Saint-Honorat; the Costa Smeralda for langoustine and Vermentino; and, always, a chef aboard who cooks the day's market. A food-and-wine week aboard is planned around producers, kitchens and cellars rather than beaches — though there is still time for the beach.

The chef aboard

Every yacht we recommend for a food-and-wine week carries a professional chef; larger yachts (40m+) add a dedicated pastry chef and often a sommelier. Chefs are briefed on the client's tastes, allergies, cultural preferences and appetite for adventure before boarding; menus are then built around the day's market and the itinerary. The chef travels ashore with the client on request — a morning at the Antibes market, a producer visit inland — and returns to the yacht for lunch or dinner around the purchase.

Restaurants ashore — the classical circuit

Along the Riviera and Liguria, a chef-led charter week routinely dines ashore at: Le Louis XV — Alain Ducasse in Monaco; the Yacht Club de Monaco for Ligurian classics; La Colombe d'Or in Saint-Paul-de-Vence; Le Grand Bleu and La Vague de Saint-Paul; La Petite Maison in Nice; Cap Estel and Château de la Chèvre d'Or on the Corniche; La Chèvre d'Or for the Michelin-star dinner; Verde and La Vague d'Or in Saint-Tropez; Puny in Portofino; Da U Batti in Portovenere. Reservations are handled by the concierge weeks ahead, at the hour that suits the yacht's day.

Vineyard mornings and producer visits

Provence and Liguria are within easy reach of the coast and reward a morning ashore. Bandol (Domaine Tempier, Château de Pibarnon) for structured rosé and mourvèdre reds; Bellet just inland from Nice for tiny-production Riviera wine; Domaine Ott estates in Provence for the classical Côtes de Provence rosé; Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà production above the coast; Vermentino di Gallura on Sardinia's north coast. Every visit is arranged privately with the estate, often with the winemaker leading the tasting, and paired with a lunch either at the estate or back aboard.

Markets and ashore-morning routine

The classical food-and-wine morning: tender ashore before breakfast, walk to the market (Antibes on Tuesday to Sunday, Ventimiglia on Friday, Camogli every morning, Saint-Tropez on Tuesday and Saturday), buy for lunch and dinner with the chef, coffee at a café on the way back, tender to the yacht for a late breakfast on deck. The market visit takes two hours and sets the tone for the entire day.

Truffle, olive oil and cheese seasons

Autumn (October, early November) is white and black truffle season in Piemonte and Provence — a specialist supplier delivers to the yacht at any Ligurian or Riviera port. The olive-oil pressing runs from late October in Liguria; direct visits to a frantoio for the year's first oil are among the most memorable ashore mornings we arrange. Cheese producers in the Alpes-Maritimes hills (small goat-cheese affineurs above Nice and Vence) welcome private visits with the yacht's chef.

Cellar and wine service aboard

The yacht's cellar is provisioned to a specific brief before boarding. Wines are drawn from the client's own collection with the appropriate paperwork, from the yacht's own list, or provisioned fresh from a Monaco-based wine merchant we work with regularly. A visiting sommelier can be brought aboard for a formal dinner. Stemware, decanters and cellar temperature are all handled by the chief stewardess and the chef — this is a routine part of the service, not an add-on.

Suitable yachts and season

Yachts with a proper galley, a covered main-deck dining space (weather insurance) and a chef's cabin ashore-provisioning routine are the ones we shortlist for food-and-wine weeks. Season matters: May and September deliver the finest markets and the calmest weather; late June is peak asparagus and stone-fruit; September is the beginning of truffle season and the last week of the Ligurian anchovy run.

Frequently asked questions

Can we bring wine from our own cellar aboard?+

Yes — client-provisioned wine with the appropriate paperwork and a modest corkage is standard. The chief stewardess coordinates delivery and cellar storage before boarding.

Can the chef go to the market with us?+

Yes — this is one of the classical food-and-wine morning routines. Chef and client walk the market together, buy for the day's menu, and return to the yacht for a late breakfast on deck.

Which is the best season for a food-and-wine charter?+

May and September for markets, weather and the shoulder-season anchorages. October adds truffle season and the year's first olive oil in Liguria. July and August are still rewarding but the anchorages are busier.

Do you arrange private vineyard visits?+

Yes — Bandol, Bellet, Provence rosé estates, Ligurian Sciacchetrà producers and Sardinian Vermentino houses are all within reach of a Mediterranean charter and are arranged privately with the winemaker leading the tasting.
