Charter Management Monaco

Charter Management Monaco

LYC Monaco is appointed as MYBA central agent for yachts based in Monaco and the Western Mediterranean. We handle listing, marketing, calendar, race-week positioning and the guest programme — coordinated with the owner's existing yacht management company or with a Monaco management partner we introduce.

Charter management is the specific mandate to place a yacht on the international charter market and keep it earning — as a discipline distinct from the technical and crew management of the yacht itself. LYC Monaco is a Monaco-based charter house and this is the side of the ownership relationship we deliver directly.

When we are appointed as MYBA central agent, we take responsibility for the marketing, listing, calendar, pricing, race-week positioning, MYBA charter contracts, APA administration during the charter, on-board guest programme and structured owner reporting. The technical, ISM, crew and finance file remains with the yacht management company — the owner's existing partner or, if none is in place, a Monaco management firm we introduce.

Commercial framework

Commercial framework and fit

Charter management is remunerated on a commission basis — typically fifteen percent of gross charter revenue for MYBA central-agency work, exclusive of APA and VAT. Retail broker commission paid to the broker who introduces the charter client is separate and sits inside the standard MYBA framework. There is no monthly retainer for the charter-management mandate alone; the alignment is with charter revenue delivered.

We take on yachts where the fit is right — well-presented yachts from around 25m upward, with a professional crew, a coherent calendar and an owner who understands the charter market. For a well-placed 30–50m yacht based in Monaco, ten to fifteen charter weeks per Mediterranean season is a realistic target; race-week and Yacht Show bookings at premium rates materially lift the revenue per week. Every mandate is preceded by a specific projection built around the yacht, the calendar the owner has in mind and the current market.

For owners without an existing Monaco management arrangement, our yacht management Monaco page explains the two-firm model in full — a Monaco technical management partner alongside LYC Monaco on the charter side.

Frequently asked

Charter management questions

What is charter management, and how is it different from yacht management?+

Yacht management covers the operational side of running a yacht — technical, ISM, crew, insurance, finance. Charter management covers everything required to place that yacht on the international charter market and keep it earning: MYBA central-agency listing, professional shoot direction, distribution across the global broker network, calendar management, race-week and Yacht Show positioning, MYBA charter contracts, APA administration, guest programme coordination on board and structured post-charter reporting. LYC Monaco delivers charter management directly; yacht management is delivered by an established Monaco partner alongside.

What is a MYBA central agency agreement?+

A MYBA (Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association) central agency appoints one broker or firm as the exclusive representative for a yacht's charter marketing. All charter enquiries pass through the central agent, who distributes the yacht to the wider broker network on standard MYBA terms. It is the industry-standard framework for chartering a European-based yacht and is the framework LYC Monaco uses when appointed.

How is charter management remunerated?+

Charter management is remunerated on a commission basis — typically fifteen percent of gross charter revenue for MYBA central-agency work, exclusive of APA and VAT. Retail broker commission (paid to the broker who introduces the charter client) sits inside the standard MYBA framework and is separate. There is no monthly retainer for charter management alone; the alignment is with charter revenue delivered.

How many charter weeks can a Monaco-based yacht realistically earn?+

For a well-presented 30–50m yacht based in Monaco, ten to fifteen charter weeks per Mediterranean season is a realistic target. Owner-use weeks reduce that; race-week and Yacht Show bookings at premium rates lift the revenue per week significantly. The exact figure depends on yacht size, condition, crew, pricing and how many owner weeks are blocked. We build a specific projection for each yacht at appointment.

How much charter revenue can a Monaco yacht generate?+

A 40m motor yacht with a strong crew and calendar can generate €1.2M to €2.5M in gross charter revenue in a Mediterranean season, with a further €300–800K possible from race-week and Yacht Show hosting where the yacht is well-placed. Larger yachts scale accordingly. These are indicative gross figures — running costs, APA, commission and owner-use decisions determine the net contribution.

What do you handle for race-week and Yacht Show positioning?+

Both the Monaco Grand Prix and the Monaco Yacht Show operate on event-week terms materially different from the regular season. LYC Monaco handles positioning for both: berth allocation liaison with Port Hercule and the SEPM where relevant, event-week rate strategy, targeted outreach to the appropriate broker desks and end clients, and the guest programme on board. Race-week bookings often confirm twelve to eighteen months in advance; we plan the calendar accordingly.

Can an owner use the yacht privately alongside chartering?+

Yes — dual-use is the most common arrangement for charter-marketed yachts in Monaco. The owner blocks their private weeks in the calendar and the yacht is available to charter clients around them. Charter revenue partially offsets running costs. VAT treatment and flag-state considerations shift with the ratio of private-to-charter days and are worked through with the yacht management company at the start of each season.

What does the marketing and shoot brief look like?+

A charter-market yacht needs a professional photography and video package refreshed every two to three seasons, plus a MYBA central-agency data sheet, guest cabin plans, sample menus and toy inventory. LYC Monaco directs the shoot (photographer, videographer, styling on board), writes the listing, distributes to the international broker network and manages the yacht's presence on the primary MYBA and broker portals. The shoot is normally scheduled at the start of the appointment.

What reporting does the owner receive?+

Structured monthly reporting during season: enquiries received, enquiries converted, charter weeks confirmed, gross revenue, upcoming calendar and any calendar changes. Post-charter, a detailed report on each booking including guest feedback, crew performance notes from the guest side, APA reconciliation summary and any items requiring the yacht management company's attention. All reporting is delivered directly to the owner and their representative.

Do you require exclusivity?+

Yes — MYBA central agency is exclusive by design. LYC Monaco is appointed as the central agent for the charter side; other brokers still bring charter clients to the yacht and are paid the retail commission under standard MYBA terms. The central agency arrangement is what makes coherent marketing, pricing and calendar management possible.
